The OTC Foundation offers Education Fellowships in the field of orthopaedic trauma surgery. The objective of these Fellowships is to allow participants to acquire advanced levels of manual and decision-making skills in the area of orthopaedic trauma care.

Via a Faculty-guided experience, each OTC Fellow gains advanced experience in:


  • ♦ The surgical as well as non-surgical management of musculoskeletal injuries.
  • ♦ The clinical and radiological musculoskeletal evaluation of the injured patient.
  • ♦ Algorithmic decision-making with respect to timing and sequencing of multiple injury management.
  • ♦ The pathophysiology of the multiple-injured patient. Understanding the prophylaxis and/or treatment of the complications and sequellae of musculoskeletal injuries.
  • ♦ The use of advanced technology and instrumentation in treating trauma patients.
  • ♦ Ethical, economic, and legal issues as they pertain to orthopaedic trauma care.

There are Fellowship Centers in North America, Europe and Asia, and Fellows are placed based upon their specialty interests and availability.

The OTC Foundation Fellowship Centers

Eligibility

Note: All applicants must possess the ability to communicate in English fluently.

There are two levels of OTC Foundation Education Fellowships:

Level One:

♦ Senior Resident or Surgeon (less than 5 years of experience) – must be in the 5th or 6th year of an approved program - or a surgeon who is currently in a recognized fellowship program.

♦ Experienced Surgeon (more than five years of experience) – in an early post-graduate stage and less than five years out of orthopaedic residency or specialization training.

Approximate Duration: 4 weeks.

Level Two:

♦ Experienced Surgeon – more than five years out and meeting all requirements of graduation from an orthopaedic residency program, and must be currently employed as an active surgeon in orthopaedic practice and traumatology.

Approximate Duration: 2 weeks.

Note: If approved for a fellowship, the OTC Foundation will cover all expenses related to the fellow's educational needs (i.e., travel, accommodations, local transportation, meals, visa fees, etc.)
